Yu Chang earned the Most Valuable Player award for Pool A of the World Baseball Classic. After the tournament, he wanted to use the momentum to earn a Red Sox roster spot. However, he faced visa problems. As a result, his flight from Taiwan to Fort Myers was delayed.

Chang had two homers, eight RBIs, and two doubles in the WBC. Also, he last played for Taiwan on March 11. However, Chang arrived in Fort Myers on March 23. Therefore, he has a short time to earn a roster spot for Boston’s Opening Day.

The Red Sox will play their last Grapefruit League match on Tuesday. Its first MLB regular season game will be on Thursday against the Orioles. Thus, people who bet on baseball don’t expect Chang to be on the roster.

Red Sox Roster Spot

Chang’s 2022 season was quite busy, as he split time between the Guardians, the Pirates, and the Rays in addition to his brief stint with Boston. Four teams in a single season? Why, yes!

According to sources of a white label sports betting provider, Chang is looking forward to a less nomadic season.

First, he must displace Boston’s Bobby Dalbec from the utility infield position. Since the organization may retain Dalbec through Minor League options, Chang is the frontrunner to win the place. The Red Sox, though, have not yet made any public statements. Likewise, the team has not yet informed Chang of his relocation plans.
