Football and baseball sensation Austin Simmons replaced Ole Miss starting pitcher Riley Maddox (L, 2.6) in the fourth inning, which proved to be the game-deciding inning. Right-handed pitcher Ryne Rodriguez ended the game on the mound. However, he allowed two singles over three innings pitched.

The Rebels will play the rest of the weekend with the loss fresh in their minds; they’ll try to rebound in Game 2 on Friday night.
